Who we are

Since 1962 MonVis has been synonymous with reliability of movements, quality of materials and impeccable style. Our timepieces stand out for their good technical and aesthetic content, as well as for the affordability in price.
Today, this brand is managed by Claudio Lo Dico, an independent Swiss watch manufacturer who, accepting the baton from his father Giovanni, continues the production of MonVis watches in Switzerland, in Lugano, following his passion for the style of the great Swiss watchmaking tradition.

MONVIS

REBIRTH OF A MYTH

On the lake in the evening
like the reflection of the branches
Space and Time wander
in the mind
Japanese Zen Buddhist Poetry (1227)
We live and act in Space and Time. In both cases we need machines and mechanisms to follow its progress. And in the case of the second variable, we can only witness the its flow and place our existence within it: try to imagine how important the first date with your loved one. It was important to count your heartbeat ran madly or simply arrived on time at that particular place and time Exactly? And what does a watch remind you of when - looking at it - you think of your first job interview? Positive thoughts, disappointments? So, it's not just about taking a quick look at your wrist and answering the question question “What time is it?”. A watch is already a story in itself. It's like an entire volume in which yes they can glimpse human events, an entire epic, sometimes.
The name MonVis comes from the portmanteau of the surname of its founders, the brothers Franco and Palmiro Monti, and the Latin noun Vis, which implies Strength, Power. The first MonVis watches date back to the early 1960s, years in which the large watchmakers usually equipped themselves with a second, more aggressive line in the economic market segments, as happened to the well-known Palmiro Monti company, which equipped itself - in this way sense- of a brand closer to popular needs. MonVis was synonymous with class and elegance, the canonical gift of important moments, especially in the emerging national class in the years of the economic boom, of the Dolce Vita. Giovanni Lo Dico began his career in the Eternal City, purchasing modest quantities of MonVis watches and reselling them "door to door" in the capital's shops. At the beginning of the 1970s he was a representative for Palmiro Monti in central Italy, until the production of MonVis was interrupted. Those were the times of the imperious appearance of steel watches with shaped cases and the explosive success of electric movements governed by the precision of quartz could already be seen on the horizon.
A lot of time has passed, and not only can the signs be seen on our faces and bodies. Claudio I say it, he insists a lot, pulls his father Giovanni's jacket: he has spent his life among winding rotors and peripheral masses, plates and rubies, bridges and spirals. He has a secret dream: “Let's take the MonVis brand, make it ours, give it new life and new youth. To better understand the nature of his obstinacy, it would be enough to look at what he wears on his wrist: a MonVis received as a gift from his father on the day of his First Communion, a splendid hand-wound gold chronograph, certainly a memory of happy days. So Giovanni Lo Dico proposed to Palmiro Monti to revive the MonVis brand. A mystical circularity made of men, passions, friendship, watches. It all ended in the space of a phone call: "Of course, Giovanni, it's a good idea, in fact it's a done deal." The promise was made of a special dough, that of true Friendship. The two continued to talk often, recalling the times of their own existential freshness and the promises that youth contains within itself.
Monvis rises, therefore, like the Phoenix and offers its professionalism, its technical and human knowledge, its prestige, all of its ability to dance with the tempo, a rhythm that is difficult to follow if you are not an expert and adequate companion.
And MonVis dances with Time with experience and respect for work.
